Name of the Project
Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP) – CSSP.

Location
The Common Seawater Supply Project (CSSP) will be built on the coast near the town of Um Qasr, in Iraq.

Project Owner/s
The project is led by TotalEnergies (45%, operator) alongside its partners Basra Oil Company (30%) and QatarEnergy (25%).

Project Description
The GGIP is designed to enhance the development of Iraq’s natural resources to improve its electricity supply. The 4-in-1 project comprises the recovery of gas – currently flared at three oilfields, in southern Iraq – to supply electric power plants, redevelop the Ratawi oilfield, build a 1 GWac solar farm and the CSSP.

The CSSP will process and transport five-million barrels of seawater a day to the main oilfields, in southern Iraq. Treated seawater will be substituted for the fresh water, currently taken from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, and aquifers, to maintain pressure in the oil wells. This will alleviate water stress in the region.

The project is expected to make up to 250 000 m3 of fresh water a day available for irrigation and local agriculture needs.

Potential Job Creation
A total of 2 700 workers, of whom 2000 Iraqis, are mobilised on the ground, while an estimated 7 000 Iraqis will be mobilised at the peak of the construction.

Capital Expenditure
The GGIP is valued at more than $13-billion.
